Finally Finished

My newest illustration for Lamplight Media is finally complete.  I thought I would share some close ups as well.

Artistic balance

The top image is a sketch I created this week of the Mad Hatter, Doormouse, and the Cheshire cat. The second image is a close up of the unfinished illustration I am currently working on for Lamp Light Media.

Whenever I am working on a tight detailed piece, sketching quick, loose simple drawings becomes almost imperative.  It's all about balance.  Art is a language through which I communicate thoughts, ideas, and emotions.  Even on commissioned work, the artist's fingerprint is clearly visible.  However, I find that if I was only making loose quick sketches or if I was only working on a detailed illustration, then I would be leaving out part of my artistic expression.  It would be like only writing half a sentence.

Another Illustration

Just another illustration for Lamp light media.

I've been reading and learning a lot lately which gets me excited about the future.  I've scrapped some projects, set out some goals for new work, as well as learning some new techniques.  I'm happiest when I'm learning something new and improving my skills.  It seems to spark my creative energy more.

I hope everyone is enjoying the holidays.

Progress

I thought I would share a couple sketches that I didn't go with from my last illustration project.

Also, I just recently got a new book (Color and Light A Guide for the Realist Painter) I've begun reading.  I'm hoping it will help improve my work.  So far, I have found it quite informative.  If you want to check it out, there's a good book review of it here.

New Illustration

Another Illustration for the RPG book.  Lamplight Media is currently looking for more artists to help with this project.  Contact them here for more information.

What I've been up to lately

This is my latest illustration.  It is for an RPG book.  You can check out more information about this project Here. This book is going to be really nice when it's re-released.  There are some other wonderful artists working on new illustrations for it as well.
